Gulf War Statue

The event began with a call to order by Sgt. Maj. Perry Stephney, USA (Ret.). The National Anthem was sung by the Brazos Valley Chorale. Maj. Glenn Burnside, USMC (Ret.) and member of Detachment 1391, gave the invocation. Lt. Gen. Randolph House, USA (Ret.) welcomed the attendees before the Brazos Valley Chorale sang God Bless the USA, a song that was popular among the participants of the Gulf War. Gen. James D. Thurman, USA (Ret.) gave the keynote address. Gen. Thurman, who was the battalion executive officer of the 1st Cavalry Division during Desert Shield and Desert Storm, presented a review of the engagement. After the unveiling of the statues, the Ross Volunteers from the Texas A&M University Corps of Cadets, who server as the Governor of Texas Honor Guard, provided a rifle salute. The ceremony ended with a bugler from the Fighting Texas Aggie Band playing Taps.
