Parks Pal

August 15, 2020

In conjunction with the City of College Station Parks & Recreation, the Brazos Valley Marine Corps League sponsored the Parks Pal event. Families drove to a pickup station at the Stephen C. Beachy Park to select and adapt their Parks Pal. Options included dogs, cats, bunnies, and unicorns. With each Parks Pal adopted was a Parks Pal Adventure Log on which to record the fun things the children did with their Parks Pal. Suggested Adventures included going for a walk, playing a sport or board game, drawing a picture or coloring, playing in a park, bike riding or skateboarding, reading a book, working a puzzle, singing a song or playing an instrument, and completing chores. By completing and submitting their log, each child was eligible to receive one of five family passes being drawn for free access in 2021 to the city swimming pool. The event was attended by 225 cars, which adopted 670 Park Pals. The stuffed animals were provided by the BVMCL.
The handout provided a picture of the Parks Pals available for adoption. Detachment 1391 gets ready to provide Parks Pals for adoption by families that were about to arrive at the pickup point.
